Beginner Beekeeping Classes

All sessions of Stonewall Apiary's Beginner Beekeeping will be held at our shop at 120 Inland Road, Versailles, CT. Each session consists of four 2.5-hour classes, for a total of 10 hours of instruction. Beginner Beekeeping is geared toward helping the first time beekeeper and is taught by Stuart Woronecki, owner and head beekeeper of Stonewall Apiary. The classes will cover everything you need to be successful when keeping your own bees for the first time.

In addition to the in-class instruction, attendees receive the several other benefits throughout the year:

• Assistance ordering all beekeeping equipment, tools, clothing, and supplies
• Priority status for package bee and nuc reservation
• Free attendance for all 2026 field days at Stonewall Apiary

The livestream is available for any session, and you can mix and match between sessions if needed. You can also view a recorded session in our shared class folder.

SCHEDULE & TOPICS

Class 1: Getting started. Equipment basics: woodenware, frames, tools, protective clothing; ordering and assembling equipment.
Class 2: The honeybee. The queen, workers, and drones; changes throughout the season; the brood cycle.
Class 3: Pests and diseases. Mice, wax moths, small hive beetles, foulbrood, chalkbrood, nosema, tracheal mites, varroa destructor, CCD; integrated pest management.
Class 4: Odds and ends. Wrap-up of unfinished topics; pollinator-friendly plantings; honey harvest and processing (if time).
